There are many reasons why people find it difficult to quit. It can be peer pressure, comfort, withdrawal, and even addiction. For Chito, it was his voice that hindered him from quitting. The “Parokya ni Edgar” vocalist claimed that his voice quality changed drastically after he started smoking.

Nag-yoyosi pala ako dati hahaha!

I started smoking nung Grade 6 ako. Subok subok lang para cool kunyari. Tapos medyo dumalas nung 2nd year highschool dahil kay Buwi hehe! That was 1992.

Sobrang sarap mag-yosi habang umiinom, after kumain, sa backstage habang naghihintay sumampa, habang nagsusulat ng kanta, habang nagrerecording, etc.

Chito shared that whenever they were about to record a song, Chito relieved his nerves by smoking a stick before they start. To calm down and have a perfect condition to sing songs.

Rakenrol eh.

However, things changed when he established his family when Chito's wife Neri Naig conceived on their first baby boy Miggy. He knows that he should be responsible for his family and to his health. the 42-year-old soon-to-be-dad made a life-changing decision to stop his habit.

Pero 4 years ago, I decided to cut down because I realized na kahit enjoy ako mag-yosi, mas enjoy ako tumugtog, kaya na-isip ko na mas alagaan ang sarili ko, and more importantly, my throat.

But a year after that, I found a bigger purpose...a more important reason to be healthy.

It was not an easy road for Chito to really stop smoking, especially your body will suffer from withdrawal symptoms. Yet for Chito Miranda, nothing is impossible when you put your heart and mind into it. In the end, he left some advice to people who are also struggling to quit:

You simply need to be stronger than your cravings, and remind yourself why nag-quit ka in the first place.
